A sweet Ramadan in Kampung Chnang

A fine saturday started with a cool downpour after few days of hot temperature here in phnom penh. Well today the Rangers have a Ramadan humanitarian aid that need to be done, its a Malaysian embassy's event actually and they invited us to join them as part of the committee members to give alms and donation to the muslim people in Kampong Chnang, roughly 80KM from Phnom Penh city. We went to the embassy at 6.30am as we reached embassy, we help to load in bread into our van and after few minutes later, Ambassador has ready in his car and the journey begin. I have to say that it is a long journey but yet beautiful with the Tonle Sap river view along the way to Kampong Chnang. Around 10pm, we arrived to Kampong Chnang with a smile on our place.

Its a beautiful place with paddy fields surround us. The village is peace and calm, even they don't have tarred roads, but the dirt road as their main road is clean without trash or deep puddles. We went deep inside the village and arrived at a mosque in Kampong Chnang where the villagers have gathered and waited for us in front of the mosque. They greet us with smile and hope as we came out from our car and unload all the bread. As we arrived at the mosque, more gift items was there and was wrap in a white plastic where the plastic contained sugar, milk, flour and other goods.

The ceremony start as soon as the ambassador sat on his chair, a doa recite by an Imam from the village and continued with a speech from their villagers representative and later followed by a speech from ambassador wife. The last speech given by the ambassador itself before we start to distribute the gift to the chosen poor family. We try our best to help the embassy in this event as this is an opportunity for us to do good deeds in Ramadan month. After all of the gift distributed, the ceremony ends and the committee take a group photo together as a memory that we never forget. On 12 noon, a 2 hours journey back to Phnom Penh city continued, a waived and a last smile to the villagers. Its a honor for us to have this kind of opportunity in our life and we do hope a chance like this will come one more time in the future…enjoy :)
