Network documentation is like an organization chart for your network. It is the blueprint of how a network is configured and how the applications and hardware work together. This is our objectives when we first thought about the documentation.
- Make reference to others.
- Easy to troubleshoot the network.
- Easy to upgrade the network.
- Describe the use, operation, maintenance, or design of software or hardware through the use of manuals, listings, diagrams, and other hard- or soft-copy written and graphic materials.
- Assign responsibilities and establish authority for business processes and practices (pertains mostly to policies and procedures).
- Standardize business practices.
- Reduce/eliminate fraud, waste, and abuse.
- Train new employees.
When we first came here and ask for any network documentation for RUA, they said they didn't have it. Ms Dok Pheakdey is a lecturer and the only staff in charge of the network here told us about the connections of network in RUA and she said that we should check it at each departments. It is difficult to check it one by one because the distance between departments are quite far. Nani, Bad and Ajip decided to make a documentation of the network in RUA.
Taking notes from Ms Pheakdey
The network documentation is important and useful for future reference. If a network documentation is available when there is a network problem needs to be resolved, someone who is in charge of the network can
quickly obtain an understanding in the network resulting minimize the time needed to fix the problem and possibly will lower the cost of the repair.
Cables connection in RUA
As we wrote in the previous entry,
this university has 8 departments and all the departments have network which connected directly from IT Center. Three major fiber optic cable lines are used to connect three different areas. Each devices use static IP Address and each departments have their own subnets. Most of the departments use LAN to connect to the network but some of the places use the wireless connection.

We started collecting network data at each departments and then we tried to compile it to become one complete documentation of the network system in RUA. Actually the network in RUA needs more improvement to reach the same level as the other universities here.
Say Cheese!
That's all about RUA's network documentation. We cannot write too much about their
network because it is private and confidential. Somtow bong!! (Sorry sis/bro)
