On that surprising day, we were
going back home ridning Bong Vandy’s tuktuk. On our way to our home, it was raining
heavily and all of us got wet but our hero (Bong Vandy) covered the tuktuk to make
sure the rain won’t reach us. After that we continued our journey home.
Suddenly, the tuktuk had a problem with its engine turning off. Maybe it was because
of the rain wetting the engine. We stopped three times before we reached home.
When we reached home, the water
level was quite high. Nana, Apai and Ajip shouted from the outside, “Go and save our stuffs,
it is flooding.!" The water level at the girl’s room already rises so we need to save
our passports first and next our belongings. Nani, Nana and the entire owner’s family members thoughtlessly
move their stuffs to higher places. The flood water rose very fast. After 10
minutes the water level was already by our leg.
Phiny, our cousin’s owner said that
the flood never happened for the last 2 years and our team was the first team to
experience the flood when the raining season comes. All of us helped Bong Marnith’s
family to throw out the water from inside of the house. We were very tired
because we have to clean up the entire house especially the girl’s room but we
were lucky because the next day was holiday, the Royal Plowing Ceremony.
Royal Plowing Ceremony is one of
the most important annual royal traditional ceremonies, which is deemed one of
the marvelous blessings of the Cambodian people. Each king has led this
celebration since ancient times. This royal ceremony is celebrated to give a
blessing to farming and to pray to God for sufficient seasonal rainfall, which
is essential to spurring the agricultural sector and to encouraging all of the
Cambodian farmers to produce a high crop yield.
It was an experience we won’t get
in Malaysia. Some of us did enjoyed playing in the rain while busy clearing our
belongings and cleaning the house.
