Cambodia, a new beginning

5 students were selected representing UniKl Miit to participate in the International Mobilisation program in Cambodia. Our mission is to provide assistance related to IT at the Royal University of Agriculture (RUA) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MAFF), Phnom Penh. We felt very lucky because we were given the chance to undergo this program since some of us had never been outside of Malaysia. If we didn’t join this program, we would never dream of going to this country.
At first, we thought that this third world country is living in poverty, hard to find halal food, and we thought that the people here are hard to get along with because of the difference in language. Even myself, my first impressions were only the great Angkor Wat, and the infamous Pol Pot with his Khmer Rouge which terrorized this nation some time ago. I thought maybe it has stopped developing since the Pol Pot reign and the war with the USA.
When we first got here, our thoughts were wrong. We were very impressed. Although Phnom Penh is still under development, it does have wonderful places to visit and the people here are very friendly with foreigners. We can see the growth in tourism as there were many tourists from other countries came here for holiday. The foods here are also great and we can easily find halal restaurants. The one particular thingy about Cambodia which made us most impressed is that we can buy varieties of stuffs with the cheapest price. Maybe the Pol Pot era somehow ended in a good way.
There are so many wonderful things we can tell about Cambodia since we came here, but to make it short we will tell you from time to time as we update this blog. Now let us begin with the story of our adventures in Cambodia, the kingdom of wonders or is it the so-called land of mines?
